Trump, US FTC commissioners support stay of finding Slaughter's firing is unlawful

( July 23, 2025, 16:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US President Donald Trump, along with defendants Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Commissioner Melissa Holyoak and Executive Director David Robbins, filed a reply in support of their motion to stay an order finding that the removal of Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter was unlawful, arguing that permitting Slaughter to exercise executive power as an FTC commissioner pending appeal would cause irreparable injury. “As the Supreme Court emphasized in Wilcox, ‘[t]he stay also reflects our judgment that the government faces greater risk of harm from an order allowing a removed officer to continue exercising the executive power than a wrongfully removed officer faces from being unable to perform her statutory duty,’ ” they said.
