Liquefied biomethane key for EU transport decarbonization, industry groups say

( July 23, 2025, 12:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU should recognize multiple liquefied biomethane production pathways to help decarbonize heavy-duty transport and the maritime sectors, a group of European energy associations have said. This should include liquefaction by equivalence — where biomethane is extracted and converted into bio-LNG at a dedicated facility connected to the gas grid — as well as on-site liquefaction near production sites. Supporting various bio-LNG production methods would boost biomethane output in Europe, optimize use of existing gas infrastructure, and help reduce emissions, the industry groups said.Full press release follows:...
