EU, Japan reinforce cooperation on energy security, supply chain resilience

( July 23, 2025, 10:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU and Japan have committed to deepen cooperation on key issues to enhance energy security, supply-chain resilience and decarbonization. In a joint statement, the two sides said they would focus initially on critical raw materials and batteries. They underscored the importance of energy security and affordability, supporting the role of natural gas and LNG in ensuring reliable supply. The EU and Japan also pledged to reduce methane emissions, ensuring their policies are compatible. In addition, they agreed to continue cooperation on carbon pricing, in light of the introduction of a mandatory Emissions Trading System in Japan and discussion on carbon leakage measures.
