USPTO seeks to add more than 1,000 examiners in FY26 budget proposal

The office’s 2026 budget proposal also includes the elimination of 265 non-examiner positions due to federal worker early retirement and voluntary exit initiatives.The US Patent and Trademark Office plans to hire about 1,000 new patent and trademark examiners in the upcoming fiscal year, according to its congressional budget request — made in June but not previously reported — outlining for the first time the scope of its hiring plans.
