Nine EU countries urged to fully implement methane emissions rules

( July 17, 2025, 11:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Nine EU member states must appoint an authority responsible for monitoring and enforcing the application of the EU rules on methane emissions, the commission said today. They must also notify the commission of this appointment. The rules are intended to improve the measurement and reporting of methane emissions across the EU, and support their reduction. Member states were required to submit the names and contact details of their responsible authorities by Feb. 5. The nine countries that failed to do this — Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Slovakia and Spain — now have two months to comply before facing further action.Statement follows. ...
