Digital Fairness Act consultation opened by EU Commission

( July 17, 2025, 09:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has opened a public consultation on the Digital Fairness Act to strengthen online consumer protection, following findings from the 2024 fitness check on digital fairness. The proposal seeks to address a range of harmful digital practices, such as unfair commercial tactics tied to dark patterns, misleading marketing by influencers, addictive design features in digital products, as well as unfair personalization. The initiative, which is grounded in the existing EU digital rulebook, also aims to ensure a level playing field for online traders, improve enforcement, and introduce potential simplification of current rules, the commission says.
