Altano-Matamata Veterinary Services deal raises concerns in New Zealand

( July 17, 2025, 03:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Altano New Zealand’s planned acquisition of the specialist horse-veterinary practice Matamata Veterinary Services may result in the loss of competition in relevant markets, according to the New Zealand antitrust regulator. Altano New Zealand is a subsidiary of Germany-based Altano International GmbH. In a statement of unresolved issues published today, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said the evidence so far indicates that the parties are each other’s closest competitor in the market for advanced equine vet services. It added that it is not currently satisfied that competition from the other existing service providers would be likely to constrain the merged entity sufficiently.
