Booking urges EU judges to strike down ‘radical’ veto against Etraveli takeover

A lawyer for Booking described the watchdog’s theory as “radical” and slammed it for not showing that any competitors would have been “foreclosed” as a result of the tie-up. The European Commission countered that the dominant platform itself saw the deal as an opportunity to sell more hotel rooms, in a bid to revive growth and bolster its own dominance.Online travel agency Booking today urged EU judges to overturn an EU decision to block its takeover of flight-booking service Etraveli, saying the merger watchdog took the unprecedented step of throwing out its merger guidelines “without justification.”...
