Sixteen traders get Swiss fines for distorting competition between suppliers

( July 8, 2025, 08:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Sixteen wholesalers and retailers affiliated to Markant, a Swiss trading and service cooperative, have been fined 28 million Francs ($35.2 million) by the Swiss competition authority for colluding on refund policies and collectively enforcing those terms. To supply retailers with everyday goods, suppliers were required to accept a services package that became increasingly costly. If suppliers didn't accept these conditions, they faced coordinated enforcement actions by the traders. The practice amounted to unlawful pricing conduct on the purchasing side, distorting competition between suppliers, the authority said. Markant was not fined, as it is not a competitor of the traders, the national antitrust watchdog said today.Statement follows (in German). ...
