Hong Kong privacy regulator flags eight data breaches across key industries

( July 8, 2025, 04:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hong Kong's privacy watchdog flagged eight cases across various sectors involving breaches of personal-data security, citing deficiencies that led to unauthorized access, disclosure or misuse of personal information, according to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, or PCPD. The cases included an incident in which a government department exposed a complainant's ID number through an envelope window, with other breaches occurring in the healthcare, security services, aviation, insurance, retail and tourism sectors. The PCPD issued six recommendations, including appointing data-security personnel, implementing targeted training and establishing comprehensive breach-response plans.The statement follows:...
