French book-delivery fee may be allowed under EU law as cultural measure, court adviser says

( July 3, 2025, 09:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: France’s 3-euro minimum shipping fee for book orders under 35 euros may comply with EU law if it's shown to protect cultural diversity and meets the requirements of proportionality, necessity and non-discrimination, Advocate General Maciej Szpunar has said in an opinion published today. Amazon had previously challenged the measure before France’s Council of State, which referred the matter to the EU Court of Justice. A hearing took place in April to examine the fee’s compatibility with single market rules, and a final decision will be issued at a later date.The Advocate General's opinion is attached in French....
