Renewables, storage, grid operators receive guidance to lower EU energy prices

By Eleonora Rinaldi ( July 2, 2025, 15:24 GMT | Insight) -- Renewable and storage companies, along with grid operators, received new guidance today from the European Commission aimed at lowering energy prices and accelerating the energy transition. The three non-binding documents advise EU member states on how to support emerging renewable technologies, fast-track permitting for storage and infrastructure projects, and design more efficient network charges.Floating offshore wind, agrisolar, ocean energy and other innovative renewables should receive stronger support from member states, the European Commission said in its new communication (see here). Such technologies have a largely untapped potential to reduce the EU’s reliance on imported fossil fuels — one of the main causes of Europe's high energy prices — and can also address land-use concerns associated with conventional renewables. But many of these technologies have yet to reach commercial maturity....
