EU extending economic restrictions against Russia to January 31, 2026

( June 30, 2025, 14:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU's economic restrictions on Russia will be extended by a further six months to January 31, 2026, in light of the country's ongoing actions in Ukraine, the EU said today. It was appropriate to maintain in force all the measures imposed by the EU and to take additional measures, if necessary, for as long as Russia continued to violate rules of international law, EU ministers said in a statement*. The measures, which cover trade, energy, finance, transport, and other sectors, were introduced in 2014 and reinforced in 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Among the restrictions is a ban on the import or transfer of seaborne crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia, said the Council, representing EU member states. Negotiations on the EU’s 18th sanctions package against Russia are still ongoing....
