Meta defeats US copyright claim in authors' suit

( June 27, 2025, 18:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms has defeated US writers' claim under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, US District Judge Vince Chhabria in San Francisco said in an order. The claim failed because Meta’s copying of the authors' books was deemed fair use as a matter of law based on evidence presented at summary judgment, Chhabria said in an order granting Meta's motion for partial summary judgment.  Because "Meta’s copying was not an infringement, its removal of [content management information] could not have furthered an act of infringement," Chhabria said. Order attached below: ...
