Apple, Google asked to check ban of DeepSeek in Germany, Berlin data watchdog said

( June 27, 2025, 09:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Chinese AI company DeepSeek has been flagged as illegal content on Apple and Google in Germany, after its chatbot app was found to unlawfully transfer user data to China, the Berlin data protection authority said today. Since the app is offered in Germany, the EU’s GDPR applies, but DeepSeek failed to show adequate safeguards and ignored earlier compliance requests. The DPA asked DeepSeek in May to remove the app from the App Stores of Google and Apple, but as the Chinese company didn’t act, the DPA has now invoked the Digital Services Act to flag the data transfer as illegal content.
