YouTube inclusion in under-16 ban won't affect classrooms, Australian watchdog says

( June 26, 2025, 08:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s online-safety watchdog has lashed out at what it says are “mistaken claims” about its recommendations to government that YouTube be included in a proposed under-16 social-media ban. In a statement today, the eSafety Commissioner said that its advice to the government wouldn’t result in YouTube being banned from Australian classrooms. “The new law will only restrict children under the age of 16 from having their own accounts — not accessing content on YouTube or any other service through links from the school or in a ‘logged-out’ state,” the eSafety Commissioner said.
