South Korea expands disclosure rules for public-sector privacy violations

( June 26, 2025, 07:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s privacy regulator will begin fully disclosing all enforcement actions against public institutions that violate privacy law, starting July 1. Under the revised disclosure guidelines, any public agency found to have breached the Personal Information Protection Act — regardless of the severity or frequency of the violation — will have the sanction decision posted on the Personal Information Protection Commission’s website for one year. Public entities operating national information systems, such as those run by central government agencies and their affiliates, will also be subject to mandatory disclosure orders and publish the outcome on their website or other channels for 10 to 12 days. The regulator said the change aims to increase accountability in the public sector, where mass data leaks have persisted despite prior sanctions.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
