Japanese schools warned over the protection of children's data

( June 26, 2025, 02:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: School teachers and administrators have received a caution from the Japanese data protection agency about the protection of children's data after a rise in privacy breaches. The Personal Information Protection Commission found that document losses, misplaced memory sticks, and provisions of information to unauthorized individuals were among the top causes of privacy breaches. Given the sensitive nature of some data, the PPC said school staff must carefully determine which information should be shared exclusively with other teachers, with parents, or with the children themselves. Data protection regulators urged schools to implement robust security and data protection measures, including proper management of memory sticks and the use of strong passwords for cybersecurity.
