Iberian blackout caused by voltage exceeding Spanish grid limits, probe says

( June 24, 2025, 10:59 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The April 28 Iberian blackout was caused by voltage levels exceeding the Spanish grid’s operational limits, said the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, or ENTSO-E, which is investigating the power cut. A loss of power generation in southern Spain caused voltage levels to rise and grid frequency to drop, with the effects spreading into Portugal, it said. This triggered a cascade of generation losses, which led to the disconnection from France and resulted in the blackout.
