Mixed ruling in Walmart copyright appeal could prompt big box store rethink

The decision should give pause to big box stores like Target and Sears who, like Walmart, supplement their online presence with third-party, drop-ship vendor-supplied products — a burgeoning cost-savings measure purportedly adopted by almost a third of all e-tailers.A divided US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit this week refused to undo an award of $75,000 in damages to Roxana Russell in her copyright case against Walmart Inc. and Wal-Mart.com USA (Walmart, collectively)....
