Battery makers to get two more years to meet sustainability rules, EU states agree

( June 19, 2025, 12:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU battery producers would get two additional years, until August 2027, to comply with sustainability requirements after EU countries agreed today on the so-called “stop the clock” mechanism, included in the sectoral simplification package. Under the bloc’s current battery rules, producers must report on due diligence practices to reduce batteries’ environmental impact. The Council of the EU, the representative body of EU governments, must now begin talks with EU lawmakers to finalize the proposal.Full statement follows....
