Telegram targeted by Malaysia's communications regulator in civil action

( June 20, 2025, 00:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has filed civil  action against two Telegram channels, Edisi Siasat and Edisi Khas, for allegedly disseminating content that could erode trust in public institution and threaten public order. The commission said in a statement that both channels have violated provisions under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The regulator said that the action is the first of its kind to be taken against a social-media platform provider, especially since Telegram is an Application Service (Class) licensee. The commission said its move follows Telegram’s serious failure to address content that has been repeatedly reported to it.The commission's statement is attached....
