EU gas imports from Russia banned by 2027 with new disclosure requirements

( June 17, 2025, 13:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU importers of Russian LNG and pipeline gas will have to end existing short-term contracts exactly one year from now — and long-term contracts by 2027 — according to the European Commission's new proposal on phasing out Russian fossil fuels. Force majeure will be used to shield companies from legal challenges. Importers will also be required to cooperate with authorities to disclose information on volumes, origins, duration and points of imports to better track the phaseout.
