Internet regulator in China fines two Beijing companies for data security lapses

An investigation found that a tech company’s back-end business system and another firm’s database were compromised by unauthorized access vulnerabilities and weak password flaws — allowing overseas IP addresses to steal personal data. Both firms failed to meet data protection obligations, having not established or perfected a full-cycle data security management system or adopted adequate technical safeguards.
