German railway group DB's dual role 'problematic', monopolies watchdog says

( June 13, 2025, 10:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: There is a risk that public funds from the special infrastructure fund to modernize Germany's rail network may indirectly benefit other areas of railway group DB through cross-subsidization, the German Monopolies Commission said today. The group's dual role as rail network operator and its own transport companies' use of the infrastructure also makes it more difficult to maintain fair competitive conditions, it said. The body, an advisor to the German government, today issued its 10th railway sector report, recommending a temporary reduction in the return on equity at network operator DB InfraGO to slow down track access charges. Statement follows.
