UK businesses get new AI, biometrics strategy from data protection watchdog

( June 5, 2025, 14:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK businesses today received new guidance on using AI and biometrics from the national data protection regulator. In its new strategy, the Information Commissioner’s Office promises to significantly tighten oversight across sectors including government, recruitment and tech, while also promoting “sustainable economic growth.” The ICO will consult on an update to its automated decision-making and profiling guidance by the autumn, to reflect proposed reforms in the Data (Use and Access) Bill. It will also develop a statutory code of practice on AI, as well as scrutinize the use of automated decision-making in recruitment by major employers.Statement follows. Full document attached....
