Zippo's right to be heard not violated by European Commission, EU court says

( June 5, 2025, 09:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Zippo's right to be heard was not violated by the European Commission in a case involving tariffs on US lighters in 2020, the EU's top court said today. The commission has challenged the decision to annul an additional 20 percent EU tariff imposed during the first Trump administration after the companies involved argued they had a right to be heard before the duties were imposed. Advocate General Tamara Ćapeta said Zippo’s right to be heard did not apply and recommended the top court sets aside the previous ruling and refer the case back to the General Court. Press release follows.
