National Court Reporters Association moves to dismiss stenographers' US antitrust claims

( June 2, 2025, 23:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The National Court Reporters Association has moved to dismiss court reporters' US antitrust claims over an allegedly illegal tie between its membership and NCRA certification, which the plaintiffs had alleged is required for their employment. But the plaintiffs have since admitted that court reporters who acquire certification can be employed as stenographers without becoming an NCRA member, which voids antitrust injury, the NCRA said in its motion to dismiss filed in the District of New Jersey. The court reporters' complaint also fails because it is time-barred, and because the crux of their complaint — "that some courts and employers require RPR certification and maintenance of certification for more responsible and high-paying positions" — addresses rules established by courts, not NCRA, it said.See attached file....
