Competition in home charging of electric cars threatened, Swedish watchdog says

( June 3, 2025, 14:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The presence of municipally-owned energy companies in some cases risks distorting competition and hindering private installation businesses from entering the market for home charging of passenger cars, Sweden's antitrust authority said today. The Swedish Competition Authority's report, which covers 2021 and 2022, found that some municipally-owned energy businesses had market shares of up to 80 percent. The watchdog called on municipally-owned energy firms to avoid indirect discounts and service bundling. Marie Östman, the authority's head, called on municipalities to review their companies’ sales practices to ensure they support public interest goals and don’t hinder competition.Statement follows (in Swedish). ...
