China clarifies registrations for the use of facial recognition technology

( June 3, 2025, 03:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: From June 1, 2025, data handlers in China whose storage of facial information processed via facial recognition technology reaches 100,000 individuals, must complete registrations to use facial recognition within 30 working days of reaching the threshold, while those who hit the mark before June 1 must register by July 14, according to a notice from the Internet regulator. The notice supports the implementation of China’s security management measures for facial recognition technology, which took effect on June 1.
