The Netherlands to take sector-by-sector approach to EU AI Act enforcement

By Luca Bertuzzi ( June 2, 2025, 10:06 GMT | Insight) -- The Netherlands is taking a sector-by-sector, iterative approach to enforcing the EU’s AI Act, according to Sven Stevenson of the Dutch data protection authority. Stevenson emphasized that enforcement will evolve, initially concentrating on prohibited AI practices and gradually addressing high-risk systems. He stressed the need for regulators to engage directly with AI use cases and treat guidance as living documents. Cross-border enforcement poses challenges due to the absence of a GDPR-style one-stop-shop, but the European Commission is expected to mediate conflicts.
