Microsoft hit with first Irish class action over alleged adtech data breach

By Júlia Tar ( May 26, 2025, 14:30 GMT | Insight) -- Microsoft is facing the first class action lawsuit of its kind in Ireland under the EU’s Collective Redress Directive, as the Irish Council for Civil Liberties seeks High Court approval today to sue the tech giant over alleged data protection breaches linked to its real-time bidding advertising system. The move follows years of unresolved scrutiny into similar practices by Google.The Irish Council for Civil Liberties, a human rights advocacy organization, will today apply to the High Court to launch a class action lawsuit against Microsoft, according to its statement (see here). This is the first action of its kind in Ireland, aiming to target a “real-time bidding” data breach within Microsoft’s advertising system....
