EU identifies China, India as top threats to IP rights in new report

( May 22, 2025, 14:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission flagged China at the top of a country watchlist identifying nations where weak intellectual property enforcement poses the greatest economic risk to EU businesses, according to a report published today. The biennial report categorizes China as a “Priority 1” country due to persistently high levels of counterfeiting, piracy and forced technology transfers despite some legislative progress. India and Turkey are listed as “Priority 2” countries, while the report also flags concerns regarding intellectual property enforcement in Argentina, Brazil and Southeast Asian nations. “This report will help focus efforts and resources of the European Commission on countries and on the specific areas of concern, with the aim of improving IP [rights] protection and enforcement,” it says. See draft report attached....
