EU’s carbon border tax simplification package endorsed by EU Parliament

( May 22, 2025, 10:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU’s proposal to simplify its Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism won broad support from the European Parliament this morning, with 564 votes in favor, 20 against and 12 abstentions. The plan would exempt 90 percent of importers of carbon-intensive goods, while still covering 99 percent of embedded CO2 emissions, according to European Commission estimates. Importers purchasing less than 50 tons of CBAM-covered goods annually would fall outside the scope. Lawmakers will now open talks with EU member states to finalize the legislation.Full statement follows....
