Clearview AI loses challenge to Alberta's privacy regulatory regime

( May 8, 2025, 20:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Although Clearview AI was successful in arguing that several sections of Alberta's provincial privacy law are unconstitutional, the facial recognition company lost its bid to block the province's privacy commissioner from prohibiting its collection of the facial images of Alberta residents. "The Commissioner’s conclusion that Clearview’s purpose for using personal information was not reasonable stands on its own and is unaffected by my conclusion that PIPA sections 12, 17, and 20 are unconstitutional or the remedy that I have granted. Accordingly, Clearview’s application to quash the Order is dismissed," Justice Colin C.J. Feasby wrote in the order. See attached document....
