Heat pumps could help fight energy poverty, EU NGO says

( May 18, 2025, 22:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Heat pump and solar thermal providers could sell up to 100 million heat pumps by 2032 to energy-poor households across the EU, according to the European Environmental Bureau. Using one third of the revenues from the emission trading system 2, which starts in 2027, and one third of the EU Social Climate Fund, EU countries could subsidize vulnerable households’ heat pumps and solar thermal systems purchases to shield them from high gas prices while cutting emissions by 11 percent and reducing EU reliance on Russian fossil fuel imports.Full press release follows:...
