USITC institutes Section 337 investigation into Acer, Asus, Hisense

( May 13, 2025, 20:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US International Trade Commission instituted an investigation today into Acer, Asus and Hisense over potential violations of Section 337 of the Tariff Act, following a complaint by Nokia. Nokia alleged last month that the three companies' imported computers and smart TVs infringe four Nokia patents which are part of the H.264 and H.265 video encoding standards. The investigation follows infringement suits filed by Nokia last month in the Central District of California, against the Taiwan-based Asus; in the Western District of Texas, against Acer, also headquartered in Taiwan; and in the Northern District of Georgia, against Hisense, headquartered in China.
