South Korean regulator launches study to bolster digital forensics in privacy probes

According to the Personal Information Protection Commission, the study responds to growing challenges posed by increasingly complex digital environments and sophisticated hacking techniques. Currently, investigations rely heavily on voluntary data submissions from companies, making it difficult to verify facts and causing delays due to the sheer volume of data. The five-month research project will analyze domestic and global forensic practices, develop tailored procedures for administrative probes and assess their application to emerging technologies such as IoT and cloud computing, with findings intended to support the regulator's planned launch of a forensic lab in December 2025.The notice, in Korean, is attached....
