Former FTC members 'baffled' by Ferguson's move to modify Exxon-Pioneer decree

( May 12, 2025, 20:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Former US Federal Trade Commissioners Alvaro Bedoya Rebecca Kelly Slaughter objected to the agency's plan to set aside its merger consent decree for the ExxonMobil-Pioneer Natural Resources deal.  "Even if there is no untoward explanation for his support for undoing the orders, we remain baffled as to why Chairman Ferguson is so eager to allow Mr. Sheffield to join the Exxon board," the former commissioners said in a joint statement. "Why do you want minority commissioners at the FTC? This is why. Sitting on the outside of the Commission, unable to speak with Commission staff or our colleagues, we have no idea what kind of communication has occurred between the White House and the FTC.
