Ballinno likely to bear costs of patent dispute with UEFA, UPC appeal body signals

( May 12, 2025, 14:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: In a dispute concerning Ballinno’s ball-touch-detection patent — which the company alleged was infringed by Kinexon and UEFA — the Appeal Court of the Unified Patent Court has accepted Ballinno’s appeal on security for costs, but found the rest of the case devoid, after Ballinno dropped its main requests tied to the Euro 2024 football tournament. While the UPC hasn’t yet issued a final cost order, it clearly signaled that Ballinno, having assumed the risk of time-sensitive litigation, will likely be held responsible for legal costs.
