Sanoma Media takes EU Commission to court over YLE’s Finnish aid

( May 12, 2025, 09:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Sanoma Media has filed an appeal at the EU's General Court to challenge the European Commission's conclusion that Finnish aid granted to public service broadcaster YLE was “existing aid.” In 2021, Sanoma filed a complaint with the bloc's state aid regulator saying that Yleisradio had received unlawful state aid for video-on-demand and online learning services. In a lawsuit filed in February, but only published today, Sanoma says that the commission made mistakes in its assessment because it failed to open a probe, despite serious difficulties in classifying the support as existing aid.The summary of the appeal follows:...
