Japan records high enforcement of subcontract law violations in FY2024

( May 12, 2025, 07:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Japanese antitrust agency reported an increase in the enforcement of the country's subcontract law during the last fiscal year, as it scrutinized abusive practices imposed on subcontractors by large companies. The Japan Fair Trade Commission, or JFTC, issued 21 corrective recommendations for the fiscal year ending in March 2025, up from 13 in the previous fiscal year. This is the highest figure recorded in recent decades, although even higher numbers were recorded in the early 1970s under different regulatory rules. The violations ranged from cost pass-on practices to the imposition of non-compensated storage of metal molds. The number of administrative guidance cases remained high at 8,230, a slight decrease from 8,268 in the previous fiscal year. The statements, in Japanese, are attached....
