Japan's Iseki violates subcontract law by mandating unpaid mold storage, JFTC says

( May 12, 2025, 01:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Major Japanese agricultural-machinery and equipment maker Iseki has received a corrective recommendation for violating the subcontract law. According to the Japanese antitrust agency, the company required its 102 subcontractors to store metal and wooden molds — as well as other tools — without paying for storage fees, even though these items were rarely used. The total number of such items reached 19,461, marking the largest instance of free storage in violation of the subcontract law. At the urging of the Japan Fair Trade Commission, Iseki collected 3,671 and discarded 2,848, and paid storage fees totaling 162 million yen (approximately $1.1 million). The regulator also instructed the company last Friday to improve its compliance measures and refrain from repeating the violations of the Subcontract Act. The statement, in Japanese, is attached....
