Study on generative AI from a copyright perspective issued by EUIPO

( May 9, 2025, 11:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Union Intellectual Property Office has published an extensive study on the development of generative AI from a copyright perspective. According to the report, no single solution has emerged as the sole standard opt-out mechanism for right holders to express their reservation rights under the Copyright Directive’s Text and Data Mining exception. Also, no common standard has emerged on how to identify and disclose the nature of synthetic content. Moreover, the study notes that while there are a series of ongoing legal disputes in this case, several agreements have been reached between right holders and generative AI developers. Finally, the report suggests public authorities should support the establishment of reservation rights databases.The full report is attached....
