EU data watchdog's appeal on its powers should be admissible, court opinion says

( May 8, 2025, 12:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU's lower-tier General Court should allow an appeal by the European Data Protection Supervisor against certain "transitional provisions" in a regulation on Europol, says a legal opinion prepared for the EU's highest court. The EDPS argued that these provisions harm its independence. Advocate General Manuel Campos Sánchez-Bordona said the General Court's decision declaring the appeal inadmissible should be set aside and the Court of Justice should refer the case back to the tribunal to rule on the case's substance.
