Bulgaria, Denmark, Portugal fined for missing deadline for EU copyright law

( May 8, 2025, 09:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Bulgaria, Denmark and Portugal must pay fines totaling 6.1 million euros (around $6.9 million), the EU’s top court ruled today, after the three countries failed to transpose the EU's Copyright Directive into national law. The rulings published today follow infringement actions brought by the European Commission under Article 258 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, with partial withdrawals concerning periodic penalty payments under Article 260(3) after the countries eventually adopted the relevant laws. Denmark was fined 1.6 million euros and Portugal 2.5 million euros. Bulgaria was fined twice: 1 million euros for failing to transpose the Copyright Directive, and the same amount for missing the deadline for the Satellite and Cable II Directive.See EU Court of Justice rulings attached in French....
