Reverse the SEP regulation withdrawal, seven EU member states urge

( May 8, 2025, 08:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Seven EU member states — Czechia, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Slovakia and Spain — have submitted a note for discussion at the Competitiveness Council later this month, urging the European Commission to reverse its decision to withdraw the proposed regulation on Standard Essential Patents. The commission had announced its intention to withdraw the proposal in February, citing a lack of foreseeable agreement. "We reaffirm our ambition to continue the legislative process with the co-legislators to develop a balanced regulatory framework for the licensing of SEPs that can be widely accepted by both licensees and licensors while minimizing further bureaucracy and additional costs," says the note from the General Secretariat of the Council.See council note attached....
