Global trade in counterfeits topped $467 billion in 2021, OECD and EUIPO report says

( May 7, 2025, 14:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Mapping Global Trade in Fakes report, prepared jointly by the OECD and the EUIPO, says that in the year 2021, counterfeit goods made up $467 billion — or 2.3 percent of global trade. Imports of fakes into the EU that year totaled $99 billion dollars, or 4.7 percent. China, Hong Kong and Turkey were the main sources. Common counterfeits include clothing, footwear and accessories, although 50 product categories are affected. The study is based on customs seizure data and international trade statistics, using a refined methodology developed since 2008.The report is attached. ...
