Patent defendant Samsung counterclaims against Wilus, but not Sisvel, in US

( May 7, 2025, 14:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: In a filing with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Samsung Electronics Co. launches the same contractual counterclaims against the Wilus Institute of Standards and Technology as HP in a related action but, unlike HP, does not formally accuse patent pool Sisvel of a breach or seek a determination of global fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory license terms to various Wi-Fi 6 standard essential patents. The answer by Samsung to Wilus’s patent infringement lawsuit says the SEP owner ran afoul of its commitments to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, as well as that Sisvel is bound by the same commitment, but limits its assertion of legal liability to Wilus, alone. Additionally, Samsung seeks declarations of noninfringement and invalidity of four Wilus purported SEPs. See attached document....
