Chinese regulator flags 15 apps, 16 SDKs in sweeping data-privacy crackdown

( May 7, 2025, 05:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Cyberspace Administration has identified 15 apps and 16 software-development kits that illegally collected and used personal data. The move, part of a wider crackdown on data privacy, cited 15 apps — including MoJi Weather, a NetEase education app, and the Tuhu auto service platform —for failing to disclose the embedded SDKs or to clearly define the purpose, methods and scope of data collection by the SDKs. Separately, 16 SDKs, including those from Kingstar Software and Shanghai Futures Info Tech, were flagged for not providing adequate rules on data collection, lacking measures to handle user-rights requests, or not promptly addressing user complaints.
